When Your Relationship is Parallel But Not Intersecting

Maybe you and your partner have been together only a few months and haven’t experienced this yet, the relationship is still exciting and new! But once you settle into your day to day lives with each other, priorities can shift. Add in the stress of work, family, careers, chores, errands… it piles up quickly. It is important to set aside time and prioritize your relationship. How can you do this?

Here’s a few ideas:

Set up a regular date night! But keep it interesting, not just the same old movie and a dinner – someone once told me always do movie first, so then you can talk about the movie at dinner.

Keep your phones silenced and away when spending quality time together, you can mindlessly scroll through Instagram another time

Get out and move together! This could be walks around the neighborhood, just-for-fun dance lessons, or trying out a new yoga or workout studio.

Don’t’ just check the box off… continue to create and form a meaningful relationship with your partner. For more information check out The Gottman Institute Blog.
